We are happy to announce our new round of scholarships and awards for student fieldwork in\u00a02025.\u00a0The due date for all applications is\u00a0Monday, March 16,\u00a02025<\/strong>.\u00a0Please see the attached document for award information, eligibility, and application instructions. Scholarships 202<\/strong>6<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hal Jackman Foundation Fellowships to support Graduate Student Fieldwork<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Award Information:<\/strong> Thanks to a very generous grant awarded by the Hal Jackman Foundation, the Archaeology Centre is offering fellowships to support graduate student archaeological fieldwork. The application is open to PhD students who wish to participate in an archaeological project in 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twelve or more graduate students will be awarded up to $5,000 to participate in archaeological fieldwork or lab-based projects of excavated materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due Date:<\/strong> March 16, 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility: <\/strong>All University of Toronto PhD graduate students pursuing field-based archaeological research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criteria:<\/strong> Short statement of research (1 page); proposed research budget; academic transcript (ROSI printouts will be accepted).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Laurence Pavlish Memorial Scholarship in Archaeological Science<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Laurence (Larry) Pavlish was a longtime member of the University of Toronto archaeological community. His research in archaeological science spanned a wide range of subjects from radiocarbon dating to geophysics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due Date:<\/strong><\/span> March 16, 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Award Information:<\/strong><\/span> The scholarship is to support upcoming archaeological fieldwork (including field school participation) or archaeometry research. Priority will be given to proposals with an explicit scientific component. One or two undergraduate students will be awarded up to $1,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility: <\/strong><\/span>All University of Toronto undergraduates (UTM and UTSC included) interested in the archaeological sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criteria: <\/strong>To apply, please submit a 500 word proposal describing the proposed fieldwork or archaeometry project and how it will enrich your training in archaeology along with a detailed budget. A transcript must also be included (ROSI printouts will be accepted).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseph W. and Maria C. Shaw Graduate Scholarship in Archaeology<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Joseph and Maria Shaw Graduate Student Travel Award is an endowed scholarship that recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Joe and Maria Shaw. The scholarship supports graduate student participation in archaeological fieldwork. Graduate students currently enrolled in any department at the University of Toronto are eligible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due date:<\/strong><\/span> March 16, 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Award Information:<\/span> <\/strong>The award provides students support in financing archaeological research. One or two students will be awarded between $3,000 to $4,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility:<\/strong><\/span> All University of Toronto PhD students within the funded cohort pursing archaeological research. A demonstration of financial need is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criteria:<\/strong><\/span> Short statement of research (1 page); proposed research budget; financial details including all currently held awards, TAships and RAships; academic transcript (ROSI printouts will be accepted).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Award Information:<\/span> <\/strong>The award provides students support in financing archaeological research. A number of students will be awarded fellowships of up to $1,000-$3,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility:<\/strong><\/span> All University of Toronto graduate students (MA and PhD students) pursing archaeological research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criteria:<\/span> <\/strong>Short statement of research (1 page); proposed research budget; academic transcript (ROSI printouts will be accepted).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Joseph and Maria Shaw Student Summer Travel Fellowship – Archaeological Institute of America Toronto Society<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Toronto Society of the Archaeological Institute of America is pleased to announce that it will be offering travel fellowships for students enrolled full-time in Toronto area universities. These grants will be for a sum of up to $500 for expenses related to travel to participate in a field school or excavation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility:<\/strong><\/span> The award is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all three campuses of the University of Toronto, but preference will be given to those traveling to their first field experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conditions:<\/strong><\/span> Applications should include a completed copy of the application form, a copy of the student\u2019s transcripts, and one letter of academic support that includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. a clear indication of how this field experience fits with the student\u2019s training<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. a statement of the student\u2019s merits and<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. a disclosure of other forms of financial assistance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
