Michael Chazan is a Paleolithic archaeologist specializing in the study of stone tools. Prof. Chazan received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his Masters and Ph.D from Yale University. He has carried out archaeological research in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. His current research focus is the archaeology of early human sites in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, particularly the site of Wonderwerk Cave and the sites of the Kathu Complex. Prof. Chazan is the author of Archaeology and Prehistory: Pathways Through Time, a widely used introductory textbook and The Reality of Artifacts: An Archaeological Perspective, both published by Routledge. He is a Fellow of Victoria College, a member of the Board of the Gardiner Museum, Research Associate at the University of the Witwatersrand, Evolutionary Studies Institute, and coordinator of the Material Culture Program at Victoria College.
